Testing Topics

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your patience with this.  The Parkway will reopen tomorrow so I have been swamped with things to get done.  Here are the testing topics for your evaluations.  Private lesson topics will be given the day of testing.  The on court teaching testing will happen primarily on Sunday, but some of it may happen on Saturday.

Jean and I will see you all on Friday.

Best,
Andy & Jean

Staying on Track

Hi all,
We are getting closer to the final weekend.  Make absolutely certain to get your workbooks done on time so that you can really concentrate on the job of readying yourself for testing.  Also remember that for any of you who have workbooks outstanding and for Workbook #4 in general, they must be handed in at 8am on Fri, Sept 12th to be accepted.  Jean and I are looking forward to the weekend because so far we have covered quite a bit of material and this brings us closer to our goal of readying you all to be excellent pros.  Some testing will likely take place on each of the three days of the weekend and definitely take place Saturday and Sunday so it is very important that you are all punctual.

Cheers,
Andy & Jean

Internet Researct Clarifications

Internet Research Clarifications
Hi everyone,
In workbook #4 on page 12 in the section titled Internet Research 2: Tennis Canada and your Provincial Sport Organization you are NO LONGER required to list the contact info for the people who work at Tennis Canada.  Simply put the name of the person.

Best,
Andy

Publishing Video

Hi everyone,
For those of you who still have to get video to me. Please upload to YouTube. You can mark your posting as public (meaning searchable by anyone), unlisted (meaning a viewer has to have the specific link to get access), or private (meaning that you have to authorize any viewers). Please be sure to mark anything you post as private or unlisted. Uploading is quite simple and can be done by going to www.youtube.com.  Once uploaded make sure to grant me access by providing my email asutton@mayfairclubs.com.

If you us a Windows based PC you will likely have Windows Live Movie Maker. If you don't you can get it free at http://explore.live.com/windows-live-movie-maker. This will manage the upload process for you.

Depending on the length and density of the video you will have to expect to leave your computer running for a few to several hours to get this done. The upload speed is significantly less than the download speed.

Good luck!
Andy

Homework and demonstration videos

Hi Everyone,
I have been asked by many of the people in the course about the due date for the videos.  Everything you have been assigned is due for Friday at 8am.  Please make every effort to get it all done by then.  We went over the due dates on orientation night to make sure you all knew.  If there is no way to get things done by Friday speak with me then and we'll figure out something, but be aware that this affects your professionalism.

Best,
Andy & Jean

Resources

Hi Everyone,
Some of you may have been having difficulty finding some of the resources from which you are to take lessons to prepare for the first day.  Please go to the Learn To Play document which can be found on the TPA website.  Take lessons from there to be able to present instead.

Best,
Andy

Coaching Resources #3

Another great Canadian resource:

http://www.gbatennis.com/

Tired of taking the same old tennis lessons and hearing the same old tips with same the old frustrating results?

THE GBA IS A MORE INTUITIVE WAY TO LEARN TENNIS. Think of The Game Based Approach more like The Performance Based Approach. Instead of focusing on technique or "the strokes" first and hope you figure out how to use them in a game later, the GBA is the complete opposite. It focuses on getting you to understand how to play the game first and then uses technique as a tool to get you to perform better.

The GBA does not just get people to play "games" and ignore technique. It uses a systematic way of integrating the tactical, physical, mental & technical together. The way tennis is being taught is shifting away from traditional "model" based coaching.

If you're only hearing your coach tell you you're getting better but you're not really sure, get measurable results...find out what the ITF and players around the world already know.. The GBA is the best way to learn tennis.
